Tours

If fishing isn’t your thing and you, your friends or family simply want to see and explore the local sights by way of water, Water Dog Guide Service offers a local tour service. Unlike the large local tour boats that often carry over 100 people, WaterDog offers a much more private, hands-on experience. The smaller boat allows us to get closer to the action – often coming right alongside cruising dolphin. Eco-tours can range from easy sight-seeing to the hands-on use of cast and seine nets to discover first-hand what lies beneath the surface! These trips are perfect for families and children.

Our tours are designed by Captain Katie Latanich and run by both Captain Tom and Captain Katie. Academic knowledge as well as local on-the-water experience have been combined to create the most enjoyable and educational tour possible. Captain Katie, who is also an accomplished angler, holds a B.A. in Environmental Science from Duke University and, among other things, has done extensive research with both Red Drum Managment and North Carolina Blue Crabs.

Captain Katie's research does not stop on the natural world - she is well versed in the local history of the Crystal Coast. Many would be amazed at the depth of our local history, from lost Spanish galleons and Blackbeard to the mysterious origins of the original Ca'e Bankers. Did you know that German U-boats once patrolled the North Carolina coast, only miles from shore? From North Carolina's often overlooked role in World War II, to the controversial creation of Cape Lookout National Seashore, the diversity of experience within living memory is astounding.

We believe that the history of the Crystal Coast is the story of the people who call these shores home. We don't just show you the wild ponies - we tell you how they came to inhabit our islands, and how the people of Carteret County fought to protect them. WaterDog Guide Service prides itself on the fact that all of our tours are different, informative and very personal.

Custom tailored to your needs, we offer the following trips:

Two Hour Historical Cruise

Three Hour Dolphin/Pony Watch

Three Hour Clamming/Crabbing Trip
