About Captain Tom
Tom has been fishing the crystal coast by ocean and shore since the days
he could first walk. It all began at age five, when Tom caught his first puppy drum
surf fishing in Emerald Isle. Even with A lifetime of saltwater fishing knowledge under
his belt, Tom can still be found fishing in the sound and ocean on almost every one his
days off. He believes that in order to be the best guide possible, one needs to be on the
water as often as possible to stay up-to-date with the movements and habits of the fish.
That being said, even while holding countless citations for the fish he targets,Tom still
has unlimited enthusiasm for fishing and never tires of his job. Combined with hard-work and
a solid work ethic, Tom does his best to assure his clients that they have the best experience possible.
To speak for myself, my clients often ask me what species I enjoy fishing for the most. My answer is
always the same - whatever is biting. If it's a fish, I enjoy trying to catch it- particularly if it requires
employing new tactics. I understand how daunting the ocean can be, and I do my best to shorten the learning
curve for my clients. Whether its learning where to fish for trout, saltwater fly-fishing or learning the
ropes of slow-trolling or kite fishing - I do and teach it all. Moreover, being a true gear guru,
I use the best equipment that money can buy.
Besides running charters and local tours, Tom can also be found running fishing seminars
and speaking to many different angling clubs.

Captain Katie
The newest addition to WaterDog Guide Service, Katie designed and runs the WaterDog tours. She holds a
B.A. in environmental science from Duke University, and is very learned in the ways of the local fish
and wildlife. Besides having done research on both fish managment and blue crabs, Katie is an accomplished
angler who often nets larger fish than Tom himself. One of her favorite catches is that of the 8lb Speckled
Trout she caught in November 2004.
Besides fishing, Katie enjoys using seine and cast nets to explore what swims beneath the surface. When it
comes to tours, in addition to that of the wildlife, Katie loves sharing her knowledge of the local history.
Her favorite aspect of the local culture is the ancient and storied history that dates back to the 1600s
as well as North Carolina's amazing role in World War II. Katie loves to pass on her love of history and the
outdoors as well as her knowledge of fisheries conservation to both children and adults alike.

Zane
Zane, our Portuguese Water Dog, is the official mascot and the future waterfowl retriever of
WaterDog Guide Service. Zane is a very busy, hard working dog - if his two white feet are not covered in dirt
and crud it is only because he's been swimming. While he loves to swim and retrieve, Zane's true passion is food.
From patiently waiting for a dropped morsel to chewing on any container that once held food, Zane brings new
meaning to the phrase "the way to man's heart is through his stomach." In his spare time he enjoys swimming,
barking at birds and fish, ripping up stuffed animals, chewing on sticks, begging the UPS man for cookies, trash can
spelunking and sliding around on hardwood floors.
Ada
Ada is the newest addition to the WaterDog Guide Service family. While lacking Zane's devious nature (the mark of
Portuguese Water Dogs), Ada makes up in for this in her sweet heart. However, while she may act and appear adorable and sweet
her true "feminine nature" is very strong. Whether it's beating up on her older brother by stealing his toys,
kicking him off his bed or the sofa or antagonizing him (to get him in trouble )- she makes it known that she
runs the house. Ada also enjoys swimming, barking at fish, ripping up stuffed animals, howling, begging the UPS man for
cookies, chasing rabbits and stealing socks. She can usually be found muscling her way past Zane in order to be
petted first.
