WATERFOWL HUNTING
Captain Tom Roller and Captain Scott Crocker of ShacklefordCharters.com
are proud to offer the finest waterfowl hunting experience in North Carolina.
Coastal North Carolina is home to some of the best waterfowl hunting on the east coast. A stopping point
on the Atlantic Flyway, the backwater creeks, sounds and open water areas of Carteret County are home
to a myriad of waterfowl species. While we concentrate our efforts mostly on divers and sea ducks, we hunt
areas that are frequented by many species of puddle ducks. A typical bag consists of divers, sea ducks and
puddlers. With the vast number of birds frequenting the Pamlico Sound, every day is different - part of the
excitement is just seeing what birds are in the area. In fact, it is not unusual to see over ten species of
waterfowl in a single morning!
Apart from being light-tackle fishing guides, Scott and I have a true passion for duck hunting
and have chosen to share our passion with a few lucky hunters. We are committed to offering the
best and most ethical hunt possible. As ethical hunters, we do not employ any illegal methods to
bring birds to the blind. There will be no bait, no rallying birds - our high success rate is the result
of years of experience and extensive scouting. While some guides leave their clients alone in a blind,
we stay with you to work the decoys and make sure the blind is producing. Every bird our clients shoot
is the result of hard work, top-notch decoys and great blinds. Our hunts are the real experience -
what duck hunting should be.
While our hunting ethics set us apart, our full service breakfast and lunch make our service first class.
The day starts off with coffee and sweetrolls and come mid-morning, we fire up our grills and serve eggs,
filet-mignon and oysters in the blind. Waterfowl hunting simply does not get any better than that.
As the weather and movements of the birds influence where we hunt, we have many different options available
for our clients. While we maintain and hunt from traditional stake blinds, we also hunt in custom-made boat
blinds so that we can move, day-to-day, with the birds if need be.If you're feeling particularly adventerous
(and conditions allow for it), ask us about our open-water lay-out boat!
We have two boats available for charter and can accomodate up to three people per boat.
Rates are $450 per boat (up to two hunters) or $525 for three hunters.
