Memorial Day weekend…what a weekend….we had good fishing but very rough seas off the beach.

Inshore the spanish were plentiful and even a few Bonito were still to be had at the wrecks!

With the light east winds, both saturday and sunday (and the later we had already learned our lesson…), we decided to chase the amazing gaffer dolphin bite in the 25-30 mile range. The only problem was that it was swelly, but very nice, until you reached about 18-20 miles offshore…and it became a confused mess of 4-6 footers stacked on top of each other. Fishable but very unpleasant.

However, we still had a nice surprise – the mahi have really started to move in close and we caught some very nice fish in the 10-20lb range this weekend within 20 miles of the beach! Within two weeks I’ll be getting them very close to home and perhaps even within sight of land! JUNE is always the best month to catch nice dolphin very close to the inlet.

The Amberjack bite is still off-the-hook for all anglers – fly, spin and bait. While the water temps are a little cooler nearshore, and the jacks thus a little more lethargic, it is only a matter of time before the water temps climb into the mid-70s and the bite will bust wide open!

Still some good times this weekend – very few pictures due to the rough seas.

I still have OPEN DAYS throughout JUNE!
